Based in the heritage site of the original 1930s home of political leader Dr AB Xuma, the Centre also hosts the Sophiatown eKhaya Circle , which seeks to research, preserve and share Sophiatown's unique heritage. We give young people an understanding of that heritage, alongside role models and life-changing opportunities to learn: computer training and business practice, social enterprise and voluntary service.  Our educational resources include the Huddleston Library and the Huddleston Youth Study Centre.

The Centre

The Huddleston Centre was established in 1999 and registered as a Section 21, NPO and Section 18A organisation in 2000, in South Africa, to pursue a programme of community integration through technology training, the arts and cultural development among people living in South Africa.

We believe that Sophiatown's legacy, its re-emergence as a cross-cultural community and as a heritage site, is a powerful force for good, enhancing the efforts of all those working for a truly integrated South Africa where self-awareness, self-determination and community values lead to community cohesion.

We serve youth from across the Western areas of the City of Johannesburg, including Soweto.

We operate in an environment dedicated to developing the full potential of each person, in a quiet and park-like setting, where students help to sustain the peaceful nature of our site.
